Project 1 - Art Online
This year, myself and my students began an online art gallery to display the work of students in the art program at the school. Next year, the students will maintain and update the site. This involves photographing or scanning the work, uploading the images into the computers, and placing the images on the web site. Also, the students will design the new web pages to display the work, and post answers to questions about art, some of which will have been submitted by visitors to the site. Thus, the students will be exposed to what has become another aspect of the art world the use of computers. They will become comfortable with the technology necessary to best present their work to the world. Also, the publication of their work will be an encouragement to the students. Finally, St. Stephen's High art program and the Herdman Collegiate art program had agreed to share ideas next year. This website will aid the communication between the schools.
Art The objective of the senior high art courses is that the student learn to express personal imagery in a variety of media. The web page is simply another canvas for students to experiment upon. The students will become familiar with the use of imaging programs. Also, the students work will be exhibited in a public forum. Technology Education The students will be exposed to the use of computer accessories such as the digital camera and the scanner. Students will learn to use programs such as Adobe PhotoDeluxe to manipulate images. Students will develop skills in the use of e-mail. Students will become familiar with the tools used to create webpages (such as Netscape Composer) and the design and publication of web sites. Stellar Schools Connection This project can only be completed through the Stellar Schools Internet connection. It is through this connection that the students can publish and view their website. It is through the connection that the students can view other art gallery websites. Also, it is through the connection that students will receive and respond to e-mail pertaining to the website.
Other Resources Learning Outcomes
The students will become aware of the use of computer technology in the art world. They will have the pleasure of displaying their artwork in their own manner in an exhibition that can reach all parts of the world, not just Stephenville. Summaries will be added as they become available.
