Project 1- Our Town, Canada
We are going to write a comprehensive report on our town including pictures and maps and based on the following pre-determined headings; Location, Landscape, Industrial Base, Transportation, Recreation, Housing, Health Care, Tourism, Social Concerns, and any other unique information. This project will be mainly done by the grade 6 class with some help from the grade 5 class in writing the report. We will post this report to our school home page and make it available to other schools so that they can complete similar projects.
The goals of the project are:
Social Studies: Collecting pictures, taking pictures with the digital camera. Collecting information regarding our town and its history.
Language Arts:
Communications Technology:
Curriculum Objectives: Our school computer lab is networked and operational with 24 hour Internet access. We will be using the Internet to upload our project to our school home page and to contact other schools to invite them to participate in our project. We will be using such software as Microsoft Front Page 98 and Image Composer 1.5, a flatbed scanner, a digital camera, and Eudora Light. We have already begun this project and we see it as an exciting adventure. It will give us an opportunity to present some valuable information about our small town and invite other small town students to do the same. This, we hope, will be the beginning of a data base on small towns that can be available to students across Canada. Our project provides us with the opportunity to learn much about the Internet and technology software that will help make us very technology literate. It also provides us with an opportunity to use develop and improve our writing and research skills.
Our School Board has provided us with a very modern Windows NT 4.0 Computer Network and
the Internet access provided by the sponsorship of the Stellar Schools program gives us
the opportunity to be on par with any school in the world.
