  Project Overview

The class will be writing paragraphs describing interesting places and activities where they live including information such as time zones, climate, land masses, location, environment, natural resources, and historical heritage. They will then post by E-mail to the homepage of the friendship club. The class put a brief history of our community on the Friendship Club Homepage during the 1997-1998 school year. In the 1998-1999 schoolyear we will look at the various places that have signed on and provide more material as needed for the project. My goals, curriculum connections, and resource connections will remain the same as the past year.

  1. Students will learn about the Intemet

  2. Students will strengthen the relationship between their school and other parts of the world.

  3. Students will share with other people what makes us unique.

  4. Students will learn about time zones and travelling around the globe utilizing computer technology.

  Curriculum Connections

This project will fit into our Language Arts, Social Studies, and Computer Studies programs. The children can tell somebody else where we are found in the world, use time zones, and learn about the global community.

As part of their language program they will write, revise, edit, and prepare the documents to send to another class by E-mall. They will then publish on the homepage of the Fabulous Friendship Club so that students from other parts of the world can read this information.

The intended learning outcomes of this project re: Technology Education are:

  1. An understanding of online communication and it's use.

  2. How to send E-mall.

  3. Writing and communication skills developed.

  4. Give the students' exposure to the information highway and how quickly they can communicate with other parts of the world.

  Resource Connections

  1. Pictures and other related documents can be scanned using our flatbed scanner so that they can be included in our finished product.

  2. Paint Shop Pro and L View will be used to enhance our documents.

  3. The paragraphs will be typed on the computer keyboards and then they will be sent to the homepage.

  4. Though our computer classes we can keep track of the various places and put them on a world map in our classroom.

One of the main outcomes of this project will be to see how well the students can locate in an atlas or a world map, the various places. They can read about other cultures and thus get a better understanding of other parts of the world. It will provide the children the opportunity to travel to various parts of the world and help them realize the worth of their own community while seeing the value of others.

  Project Summary
