Project 2 - Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle
This project will be open to any grade four class across the country. First, as an introduction, all participants will send to each other a brief description and location of their community. Secondly, the classes will collect, sort, count/weigh, and record the amount of garbage they throw away over a period of time. Thirdly, all classes will take all the data and analyse it. Fourthly, based on their findings, each class will develop a plan to reduce, reuse and recycle.
This project will fit into their Computer Studies, Language Arts, Science, Math, and Social Studies programs.
Students will learn keyboarding skills, word processing skills, how to save, retrieve and print information from a disk, how to use the Internet, how to upload and download files, and how to send and receive e-mail messages as part of their Computer Studies program.
Students will learn research, writing and communicating skills. They will have to edit, revise, and prepare a final report on their findings as part of their Language Arts program.
Students will learn how to collect, record, make predictions and analyse data as part of their Science program.
Students will learn how to use graphs and tables to record their data as part of their Math/Social Studies programs.
Students will learn how to locate and plot different communities on maps as part of their Social Studies program.
