Project Overview
Each student will be designing their personal web page to be unloaded to our site on
Calvin and linked from our school's home page.
GOALS:
- My students will learn about the Internet.
- They will evaluate other web sites and learn what constitutes an effective one.
- To show students how the language of Shakespeare permeates modem day English, and that
it contains many words and expressions already familiar to their vocabulary.
- My students will learn how to publish to the WEB
- Students collaboration and writing skills will improve
Curriculum
Connections
This project will fit into our Language Arts and Computer Studies programs. The children
will develop a home page as part of their language program. Then, they will have to edit,
revise and prepare the paper or document for transfer into HTML (Hyper Text Markup
Language). Lastly, the students personal Web page will be unloaded using FTP (File
Transfer Protocol) and published to the Internet at our school's home site on Calvin.
The intended learning outcomes of this project in Technology Education
are:
- An understanding of online communication and how it is used.
- How to publish to the Internet.
- Writing and communication skills developed.
- Collaborating with other students and teachers who are designing Home Pages on their
choice of interest.
In the process, the students will come to an understanding of the technological terms used
in computer programming and Publishing on the information highway.
- The reports will be typed via computer keyboard into the HTML Editor.
- Through the use of our networked computer system, we will upload our files to main
site on Calvin.
- Pictures and related documents will be scanned using our flatbed scanner so that
images can be included, on finished product.
- Adobe and L-View will be used to enhance our images.

Evaluation
By viewing other web sites they will learn what constitutes an effective one. They will
develop and create a home page of their own, thus learning the skills needed to help them
interact and communicate in a technological world via the information highway.
