Project Overview
It is intended that selected students presently studying Biology 3201
under the direction of Mr. Dave Power will be provided an opportunity to
explore WWW resources to enhance the learning of the intended learning
outcomes related to the Survey of Plants. Approximately 30 students will
be involved in the project. In addition to their normal text resource
they will have access to CD-ROM resources, video tape resources, and WWW
resources. Students will select a topic of study from the present Biology
3201 curriculum and will make use of internet and other resources to gather
information and prepare an HTML document which will be made available to
teachers and students of the province of Newfoundland by way of STEM~Net.
It is intended that this project will not only enhance the learning of the
student involved but also provide a valuable resource to the students and
teachers of biology within this province. It is intended that the project
would be completed by the end of May, 1998.
Curriculum Connections
This project will address those intended learning outcomes as outlined in
the Biology 3201 Curriculum Guide that are directly related to the survey
of plants and the related concepts of plant reproduction. The project is
intended to provide the student with the resources required to study the
subject through resource based teaching/learning strategies. It is intended
that the project will enhance the student's research, critical thinking and
technological skills. It is also intended that the preparation of an HTML
document will integrate the curriculum goals of biology, language, and
technology education.
Resource Connections
The STELLAR Schools Internet connection is essential to the success of
this project. The Internet connection will provide the student with
resources that would not otherwise be available to the student in any other
form. Students will learn how to find World Wide Web resources. The student
will also make use of scanner, digital camera, laserdisc, and video
technology in the preparation of their own HTML document. It is intended
that the finished product will be made available through STEM~Net as a
resource for use by the students and teachers of this province.
Evaluation
Upon completion of the project students will have completed the following:
Students will have achieved the Intended Learning Outcomes as outlined in
the Biology 3201 Curriculum Guide for the intended learning outcomes
related to the survey of plants. Students will have acquired the skills
required to make efficient use of the World Wide Web as a resource tool.
The student will have enhanced their language, communication and
technological skills. The student will have produced an HTML document.
