Specifically this project would initially involve a class of students getting commitments from several other schools in the province, who are offering the Design Technology or Junior High Technology Education program, to join our group. The next phase would be to devise a schedule of events. I would suggest that each school come up with a challenge on "their week". This would depend on the number of schools involved. Specifically the students and their teacher would come up with a design challenge and a set of design limitations and post it on the internet. Each school would be given a set amount of time to submit their solutions and each solution would be evaluated. As this project would be linked directly to a Technology Education program the connections are obvious. The driving force behind Technology Education is the use of the "Design Process" in problem solving. The internet will be used as a communication source between the various schools. It will also be used as a research tool in the solving of the various Design Challenges. It will also be used to post the various solutions found to the challenges. This project will be quite difficult to evaluate. I believe the teachers of each school would have to become the evaluators of the solutions to the challenges. The teacher of the particular school being evaluated would sit out for this particular evaluation. The teachers would have to agree upon the criteria for evaluation. In design there can be not "right solution". We must consider things such as imagination, and speed.
