One of the goals of the proposed grade 7 technology program (see "Living in a Technological Society") is to exposed students to the many facets of communication. Probably the most interesting and dynamic aspect of the communication module is creating and publishing a ‘web' document. It is this very feature upon which this project will focus. This project will also give students an effective method for presentations in various subjects, but especially in Language Arts. To develop in students a greater appreciation for the role of communication in our technological society today, students need to be exposed to various communication technologies. It would be an understatement to say that one of the greatest advances in communication technologies is the World Wide Web. This one mode of communication technology as now found itself into the homes of millions of North Americans today. Then in order for us to prepare our students for this technology, we must expose them to it and they must learn how to effectively us it. To accomplish this task then students will learn how to develop a HTML presentations that they can share over the Internet. We will require students to go "online" to search for information on various topics, bring together this information in an organized fashion, and finally publish it on the World Wide.
This project will meet course objectives in the following areas:
Development of good research/searching techniques using the Internet. Appreciation for the effects of the Internet as a communication device.
