Our Grade Five class has agreed to keep the rest of the school updated as to what is happening during the Olympic Games in February. They will get all of this information by using the internet. They will read the articles, print them, prepare bulletin boards and go to other classrooms to give reports. All the information that they get will come from the Internet.
One of the goals of the Social Studies program is to promote the development of research skills (organizing, evaluating, and presenting information. This project is geared toward that goal. In addition, students will be learning the names and location of different countries of the world who are participating in the Olympics and this will give them an enriched general knowledge about our world.
This project will be aimed at the following goal as outlined in "A Curriculum Framework for Technology Education".
The STEM~Net Stellar Schools program is essential to this project. This is the only way that our students could have in-school access to the Internet. A few of our students have access from their homes; however, this project will be carried out in school under teacher supervision. Hence multiple access to the internet is essential for the completion of this project.
