Project 2: Career Information Knowledge Database
Lead teacher for this Project will be Elroy Grandy, Learning Resources/Technology Teacher at Partanna Academy. The students involved will include all students at the Grade 9 level. All of them will have on-line experience to help search and select relevant material from Internet sites. Because each year bring a new group of Grade 9 students, the Project can be reconstituted each September, and extended with each passing year. The Project will commence in September, 1996, and hopefully be restarted at the same time in succeeding school years. Part of the Grade 9 curriculum is a course called Career Exploration. This Course provides students finishing Jr. High opportunities to discuss and discover information related to possible career choices. They take this information into the High School Program and use it make course selections. Resources for the "Career Exploration" Course include a teacher's guide and students' workbook. The Program is designed to take advantage of professional people within the community who are willing to share their professional knowledge. The only other resources are whatever videos, movies and filmstrips and print the teacher can find. Many of these often are not very current. This Proposal is designed to add to those resources, a list of Internet sites that offer more current information about a wider range of professions. This information will be shared by being compiled into a database in both print and homepage design. The print resource will be use as an in-class discussion and research tool while the homepage will allow all grade 9 students in the Province, and elsewhere, who have internet access to use the information database. This Project will address most areas of the Curriculum. The most obvious will include Language Arts, Research skills, keyboarding and word processing. Intended learning outcomes of the Career Explorations Course include: The student will:

Without the STELLAR School Internet Connection, this project will not be possible. Only such communication capability will allow Grade 9 students to operationalize the Proposal objectives as laid out above. Evaluation of the Project will be done by examining the stated objectives. The following checklist will serve to determine if objectives have been met: The student:
