Project 1: Webpage Study Guides
MCHS is a large school with over 600 students from grades 7 to level 3. With such a large population it is impossible for all our students to have access to the Internet on a regular basis to research information. As a result we feel it would be of great benefit to our students if and when they get the opportunity to look for information that they could go directly to sites to find that information. Therefore, we will have our Grade 9 classes research various topic areas suggested by other students and teachers in the school, then create a Webpage with links to sites pertaining to that topic. These student created webpages will then be linked to the schools Webpage which is setup on our local network and it will provide easier access for other students and teachers. The idea of this project is to include all areas of our school curriculum. It is hoped that each curriculum topic will have a Webpage setup by students and maintained by students with teacher supervision. The Technology Education outcomes that are most applicable to this project in the intermediate level are:
processes.
demonstrate understanding of the basic communication principles of use a variety of communication technologies and tools.
use communication tools to access, evaluate and select appropriate information, and
incorporate a number of representation techniques in developing and communication examine the solution options and select the most appropriate. produce the solution using appropriate communication tools. The Stellar Schools Internet connection is vital to the success of our project as it will allow us to continue to provide our students with Internet access throughout various rooms in our school. The school's computer lab, technology lab, as well as our resource centre, will be utilized by students to complete the various aspects of the project. The students involved will be able to learn how to create a webpage and how to update it from time to time. Our students will become more comfortable with using the Internet to acquire information. Students in classes other than computer classes will have easier access to the resources of the net. We should be able to check out the usage of our Webpage to get information by seeing how much information is downloaded and printed in our various computer labs and resource rooms.
