Project 1: "Fostering" Interest In Others
Our school sponsors a foster child from Sri Lanka. Because of this, we are interested in learning about countries where foster children come from and the conditions in which they live. Students will become familiar with the Internet to learn about developing countries. E-mail will be used to contact "Foster Parents Plan" at their address. We will also try and contact other schools who have foster children. We will follow news groups to learn any current affairs about countries we have chosen. Social Studies: The grade four textbook Communities Around Our World introduces the children to different lifestyles in places around the world. This project will extend their knowledge particularly when dealing with developing countries. Examples of some countries include Sri Lanka, Sierra Leone, Egypt, India, Philippines and Colombia. Language Arts: Skills we wish to develop through this project are:

Students will learn to appreciate the contribution that "Foster Parents Plan" plays in This project will introduce some grade four students to the Internet. It will allow them to retrieve information through net searches. Previously, there was only one computer in our school with an Internet connection and it was unavailable to students. Teacher observation and participation would note how effective the children were in using the technology. Students will fill in reports regarding specifics on each country. They will make bulletin board displays to share with the school.
