Project 3: Project Rivers
Our third project involves the participation of our Grade 6 students and teachers in an already-established on-line project entitled Project Rivers. A total of 66 students and two teachers will be involved in this project which will see our students collecting and sharing information on rivers around this country. Our school is situated at Botwood which lies at the mouth of one of the largest river systems in Newfoundland, the Exploits River System. This river system and the surrounding hinterland has immense effects on the local occupations, the tourism potential, and the overall development patterns on all five towns serviced by our school. Involvement in this project would give all of our Grade 6 students the opportunity to learn much more about our own Exploits River System and to understand better the impacts on local development, the economy, and local climatic factors that river have in general on nearby towns.
