  Project Overview

Our group of Challenging Needs students will establish contact with a similar group of disabled students, preferably in another province. Once contact is established our students would become e-mail pals with their "out of province" counterparts. The students would than share information on their schools, communities, and families. This information sharing would involve transmission of letters, pictures, art work and creative writing.

The overall goal of our Challenging Needs unit will be well served by this project. The Challenging Needs department aims at making its students active and participating members of the community with each individual achieving to his/her potential. The use of Internet technology will make these students more a part of our global community.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

Students will be able to:

• Compose a letter or message.
• Read and discuss e-mail messages received.
• Communicate feelings, information asked about themselves, their community and their families to others.
• Learn about other communities and customs.

Intended Learning Outcomes (Technology):

• Use keyboard to compose and edit messages.
• Save messages to a diskette.
• Send messages by e-mail.
• Download messages from the Internet.
• Use printer to print messages.
• Use scanner to load and send pictures and drawings over the Internet.
• Use a digital camera to take and load pictures into camera.

  Resource Connections

The Stellar Schools Internet Connection will enable this school to put a number of computer terminals online. This will allow groups of varying size to access the net and allow communications of this type to occur.
