  Project Overview

This project will see our grade 8 French Immersion students researching a variety of aspects of the culture of France and sharing their project information in the French language via the medium of web page design. The project is collaborative in that our students will invite participation of students from other schools to contribute to the project. Through the use of email, the students at Mount Pearl Junior High will act as ring leaders and offer guidance to other students in the design of their web pages while maintaining a degree of control over the overall design of the web pages. Our students will design their own web pages with hyperlinks to the completed pages offered by other students.

  Curriculum Connections

This project provides an extension to the curriculum in both French, Language Arts and Social Studies. The French Connection will provide our French Immersion students with a real audience for their research efforts. It will offer them an opportunity to write for others using their skills in the French language. In addition, this project will provide opportunities for them to use technology to collaborate with other students in the design of the finished product.

• Lifelong Learning - students work and learn by collaborating with others and use communications technology to present and share ideas and information

  Resource Connections

The STELLAR schools Internet connection will enable us to embark on a collaborative project involving the design of web pages. Because our pages will be graphics-intensive, a high speed Internet connection is highly desirable. Resources needed for this project include:

• multimedia-capable computers with Internet connections
• a scanner
• HTML editing software

  Evaluation

Evaluation of this project would focus primarily on the students’ ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively in the French language. Students will demonstrate outcomes in Social Studies by means of their final product—the design and discssion of a web page showing their research about one aspect of French culture.
