  Project Overview

Our school would like to become part of this already existing STELLAR school project.

As part of the Science program students from a Grade Nine French Immersion classes would determine the water quality of a very small stream that runs in very close proximity to our school. By using several biological indicators such as type and absence of flora and fauna of the brook, students will try to determine the water quality. Along with these indicators, students will measure the pH levels, oxygen content, temperature of the test area, and phosphate presence. Working in groups the students would then post the information collected to the existing database and make comparisons. In addition, the information would be posted to our school’s home page so that students doing this project in successive years could compare the data from previous years drawing conclusions about changes to the quality of water in this stream.

It is proposed that this project start in September of next year since students have already completed the unit of work in the Science program.
